"Margate Radio Strings + Drummers" is Robert Stillman's suite of chamber music stemming from the archive of his monthly solo improvisation broadcasts for Margate Radio. To create the work, Stillman listened through to over 5 years of his monthly shows-which ranged from solo saxophone explorations, to ethereal DX-7 atmosphere, to punishing mixer feedback- and selected a series of his favorite excerpts, transcribing and arranging them for 'low string quartet' of violin, two cellos, and double bass, and giving the drummers free reign to improvise within this dynamic landscape. The result is a hypnotic, dreamlike journey through Stillman's musical mind, animated by the brilliance of six musicians with whom he's worked regularly in various contexts over the past decade: Raven Bush (violin); Kareem Dayes and Francesca Ter-Berg (cello); Tom Herbert (bass); Tom Skinner and Sean Carpio (drums and percussion). This event marks the release of the limited edition double-vinyl of the music from Margate Radio.
Paul Camo and James Jordan Johnson collaborate through live sound performance, using sampling, live instrumentation and found text to form new, sometimes legible and sometimes illegible, relationships between genres and themes. The session unfolds across four CDJs, moving between structure, disruption and shared listening.
