Listening with ‘Still Noise’ - a sound workshop with Zhuo Mengting

What counts as noise, and who gets to decide?

Listening with ‘Still Noise’ is a workshop exploring sound, space, and the ways noise and silence are organised around us.

Through discussion, listening and sound collecting, participants will explore why some sounds are treated as disturbance, while others pass unnoticed or are made to disappear. Guided by prompts from the artist, the session invites members of the public, artists and curious listeners alike to share recordings, take part in a short listening walk, and reflect on how personal, social and spatial contexts shape what we hear.

No previous knowledge or experience is needed, only curiosity and a phone or simple recording device if you have one.

The workshop will also introduce participants to open-source sound mapping platforms as creative tools for documenting, locating and thinking with sound beyond the session itself. The session forms part of the wider research and development of STILL NOISE, a new performance project by Zhuo Mengting, while remaining a space for shared listening, reflection and exchange.

☀️ The workshop operates on a pay-what-you-can basis.
☀️ Participants can enjoy a selection of drinks at a discounted rate at etsdts (subject to availability).

*Please note that the workshop venue is at lower ground floor and is not fully accessibly.
