Rio Forever: Opening Night launches the Rio Cinema’s 50th anniversary celebratory season of events with a special night combining film, music and Hackney’s creative spirit. At the heart of the programme is a community selection of films chosen by the Rio’s team, the people whose passion, knowledge and dedication have kept the cinema thriving for decades. Their picks reflect the eclectic tastes and independent ethos that have long defined the Rio.
The opening night centres around a unique party curated in collaboration with Jeremy Deller, Sports Banger and Doc’n Roll Films, three forces whose work shares a deep affinity with the Rio’s core values: community, DIY creativity and a lust for both grassroots subculture and counterculture. Together with the Rio's team, they will transform the space for a one-off celebration of radical creativity, outsider art, music and film under one roof.
The night reflects their shared commitment to DIY culture, subcultural storytelling and the local communities that shape contemporary art and music. Expect the unexpected - and see you in the dance.
