Building Pleasure: A Fundraiser for PAF

An evening of food, film and dance raising funds for Performing Arts Forum, a much beloved residency space in northern France undergoing critical refurbishment.
A £10 suggested ticket price includes a vegetarian meal from 6pm with all profits going to the PAF fundraiser.
The collective meal sees recipes pulled from the PAF kitchen to accompany two film screenings connecting the residency space with infrastructures of repair, collective art-making and the south London contingent of this itinerant PAF beyond its walls. We will watch together:
Postcards from a Desert Island, 2010-11 by Adelita Husni-Bey (22m)
Postcards from the Desert Island is a remake of a 50s educational film Holiday from the rules in which four children interact with an omniscient narrator who teleports them to a tropical island where there are no rules. As in Lord of the Flies, the little children’s anarchistic society quickly breaks down. Finally, when the narrator asks the children if they want to leave the island they answer unhesitatingly: “instead of making up a lot of rules, why don’t we go home where we already have them?”

Members of the newly formed Pepys Estate Community Association document on camera outstanding repairs and maintenance needed on the estate, as well as interviewing about other about badly needed facilities, e.g nursery provision, play scheme facilities. This material was edited for a community association public meeting attended by representatives of the GLC.
The screening will be followed by deejays and dancing with friends of PAF playing until close. All funds raised will go to the PAF fundraiser.
